Pono pono
2023
Acrylic on Fabric mounted to Birch
15" x 14"
I followed a grandmother and grandaughter collecting limu along the rocks of Kapuka'ulua Point, on Maui's North Shore near our house. This alga is used in the performance of a forgiveness ceremony (ho'o pono pono) held by families or individuals who are quarrelling among themselves.
Bitter, I wish I had some now.
This painting also looks like bleached coral.
